Kalyan earned his B.A. in Biology from the University of Pennsylvania and his M.D. and Ph.D. From Washington University in St. Louis. Over this time, his research endeavors included studying molecular mechanisms of neurodegeneration, developing high-performance optical neuroimaging methods for human studies of early brain development, and exploring neural decoding. He is currently pursuing further clinical training in the Child and Adolescent Psychiatry residency and fellowship program at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center Western Psychiatric Hospital. As a member of the Psychiatry Research Pathway, he also continues to enjoy investigating clinically salient neuroscience questions, with a particular interest in mechanisms of psychiatric illness and resilience. His work in the ANDP lab involves applying machine learning approaches to analyze multimodal phenotyping data from youth with treatment-resistant depression and anhedonia receiving novel therapeutic interventions.
